Welcome to Year 3
A very warm welcome back after the summer holidays. I do hope that you have all had a good rest and are as excited about the year ahead! I would like to welcome all the children into Year 3 and the start of their journey into KS2. There are lots of terrific things planned for this term so I hope you are ready.
Our topic for the first half term is ‘Bones’. As well as learning all about human bones at school, we will be visiting the Richard III Visitor Centre and Leicester Cathedral to learn more about where Richard III’s bones were discovered and reburied.
In Maths, we are starting the year looking at place value, which will then be followed by addition and subtraction. Please keep practicing your times tables too as we will be doing weekly ‘Beat That’ times tables tests.
In English, we will begin by writing our own adventure story and finishing off Autumn 1 by writing an Instructional text. I would also really like to encourage children’s reading both at home and at school. Children need to read regularly at home as this will encourage fluency in their reading.
Homework will be handed out every Friday and it is due in every Wednesday. Please ensure you practice the spellings given in your Learning Log as you will be tested on them each week.
P.E will be on Wednesday and swimming will be on Friday. This year the children will be attending Aylestone Leisure Centre every Friday with Year 4 for swimming lessons. You will not be required to pay for the swimming lessons but if you can make a voluntary contribution towards the transport costs, it would be gratefully received. Please ensure that your child has a full P.E/swimming kit ready in school for these days, and that all items are all clearly labelled with your child’s name. Please also ensure that your child’s uniform is clearly labelled too.
If you ever wish to discuss any concerns or have any questions please do not hesitate to come and see me.
